High Above the Macedon Ranges
The Vineyard Letting the Land Do the Talking
Perched at 450 metres in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges, Glenhope Vineyard grows something special. Granite, sandy loam, and volcanic soils shape every grape here. The result is wine with a genuine sense of place.
Glenhope began in 1995 and was planted to classic Bordeaux varieties. The site quickly proved its worth as a cool-climate grower vineyard. In 2021, James and Marlin Gevergizian discovered the property. They were searching for a rural retreat from busy Melbourne life. It was love at first sight. A new chapter began that same day.
The couple brought entrepreneurial energy and hands-on commitment to winemaking. They’ve since focused on soil health, water security, and sustainable infrastructure. Their goal is to let the vineyard’s natural character shine through.
At 94 acres, Glenhope is the region’s largest vineyard. It grows Chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Malbec, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Shiraz round out the range. Current releases include a Shiraz-Granitic and Shiraz-Ferrosol, showing two distinct soils. A Pinot Noir-Shiraz blend and a fresh Rosé also feature. Merlot, Malbec, and Cabernet varieties complete the current lineup.
Vigneron Scott Harrington has worked the site since 2018. He practises minimal intervention winemaking, letting the vineyard express itself naturally. Glenhope’s elevation creates a large diurnal temperature range. This means slow ripening and long hangtime through the season. The result is exceptional fruit ripeness and structure in every bottle.
The vineyard’s varied soil profile sets it apart too. Granitic, sandy loam, and volcanic ironstone soils each add character. Each vintage brings small-batch, single-vineyard wines showcasing this diversity.
Glenhope’s dedication earned recognition too. It won Best Winery at the 2023 Macedon Ranges Wine Exhibition.
Glenhope Vineyard offers wine drinkers something rare: true terroir, expressed honestly. Every bottle tells the story of this remarkable Macedon Ranges site.
